I always think of the month of February as being full of the color red, considering all of the Valentine's Day treats filling up the stores. This month, focus your attention on the color red. Try to capture a photo that features or spotlights this color. If you use a Valentine's Day theme, make it really unique!

To an iPhoneographer, more is always better! But for this challenge, we're going to stick with just one photo editing app to edit our photos.

Creative i Prompt: Create a work of art using just one photo editing app!

When I first began doing iPhoneography, I used only Photoshop Touch because that was the only app I knew how to use. Later I learned how to process my photos in one app, then another, and another. Many iPhoneographers use between 3 - 5 different apps for each photo.

Recently, I've been going through a simplification stage where I try to use only one app. This works well with apps like BeFunky, Photo Toaster, PicsArt, and Snapseed. The challenge is in the limitation....what can you do using only one app?

This month, we're turning old images into new ones! Look back over the photos you've taken this year and choose one to "recycle." I love recycling images. It's great for breaking creative blocks or expanding your creative iPhoneography skills. The inset photo is one I processed already (HERE) but, since I've re-discovered Photo Toaster, I re-edited in a slightly different direction.

Creative i Prompt: Recycle a photo to create a new work of art.

Here are a few ideas....

• Revisit a photo you took a while ago, but didn't know what to do with it
• Use a photo already processed and start over in a completely different processing direction (e.g., black and white to painterly)
• Begin with the edited photo and add to it (e.g., layer another photo to create a double exposure)
  

Share your Recycled Photos! If you have a blog, show the before and after images.

I originally popped up the color in this image of a bicycle I found on the street. Then I re-processed it in black and white. I went in another editing direction by merging a blue texture background with the original photo in MultiExpo.

Creative iPrompt: Create a creative selfie (self-portrait).

I just completed Vivienne McMaster's #beyourownbeloved Beloved Beginnings e-course. It's a 10-day online course exploring a variety of simple self-portrait prompts. I became inspired by having to focus the lens on myself for 10 days and started creating all sorts of apped out selfies. They always seem to convey a stronger emotion or quality than their color counterparts. This month, challenge yourself to create a striking black and white image and/or convert a color image already in your camera roll to black and white.

Blurs are sometimes considered mistakes but they can create beautiful effects, even when they are accidental. 

There are a variety of ways to get a blurry, artistic effect:
~ motion blur
~ double exposure
~ out of focus
~ shooting through another medium
~ app effects like BlurFX

Patterns make beautiful backgrounds and layers for your digital mixed media, collage art and creative iphoneography. When I began using my iPad to make art, I used a lot of old book illustrations as backgrounds. It didn't occur to me that I could take my own photos and use them. 

Then one day I was looking at a pattern in the sofa fabric and thought, "That would make a great background." 

Creative iPrompt:
Create a work of art using a patterned background you've photographed. 

It's a good idea to go around snapping every pattern you see. You never know which ones you'll use. For example, when I took the photo of the floral fabric below, I had no idea it would be so perfect for the image of Primrose (inset). 

Above is a mailing envelope I snapped which created the geometrical lines on this art journaling piece. Below, I used the pattern from a doormat to create a magical tree image. You'll notice that the photographs are a little blurry....that's what I love about creative iphoneography -- the mistakes don't matter...everything looks great in the final piece.

Take a mirrored selfie (self-portrait).

When I submitted this photo to http://artistswithiphones.com/, the rules were:
It has to be a self portrait taken by you in front of a mirroring surface and the cameraphone has to be visible.
