Really enjoy your work. I'm a 30 year professional, but newly retired. Even if I'm retired I still like to learn new things. Your work flows have been really helpful and the same time entertaining. I'm just trying to learn how you know what to use. I'm old school, you're the future! Great work!

Wow! What a wonderful compliment, Galen. I'm glad you're enjoying the workflows! How to know what apps or editing tools to use? What a great question. I'm planning to write an article on this for the iPhone Photography School within the next month or so.

In general, I begin with my first impression of the photo. What does it need to bring out its beauty? I also consider the technical flaws. For this image, it was too blurry to do anything but a painterly and/or abstract style. I also have a strong understanding of what each app in my collection does. From there it's just tapping on different effects to see what works.
