Bridge In The Woods

I discovered a nature park close to home and took my iPhone4 to snap pictures. When I came across this bridge, I had to photograph it — my favorite subjects are ordinary objects. Plus, bridges have always seemed magical to me, kind of like portals to otherworldly places. This post processed version of the bridge captures a magically peaceful quality I felt in the woods that day. I have the sense that if I step onto the bridge, I'll walk out on the other side in a brand new world.

:: Photo-Heart Connection: One thing most people don't know about me is that I'm terrified of doing new things. Something as simple as finding a nature park to visit isn't something I would typically do without a lot of motivation. That's what I'm enjoying most about iPhoneography - it's dragging me out of my shell. When I muster up the courage to get out of my comfort zone, I can discover wonderful, magical places!

Like you, I imagine discovering a magical place on the other side of that bridge. I also relate to your fear of going new places and doing new things. I usually really enjoy going or doing whatever it is once I get there, but I always struggle with getting myself out the door in the first place. Good for you for finding this lovely place!

About 18 months ago, I was looking for the motivation to get up off my butt and get out walking more. I knew I loved blogging and photography...and had been really consistent with both. So I started a 365 page/project...took my iPhone out walking with me... and used something that I seemed to be somewhat disciplined with to motivate me to change something I'm not so naturally motivated to do!! Worked like a charm! This is a gorgeous shot - and I agree - there is a magical quality to bridges!

Thanks for commenting and visiting Adrienne. I haven't had as much luck with the 365 projects but the daily and weekly photo challenges have been working out well so far.

Bridges do have a magical kind of quality about them . . .

Bridges are full of symbolism, aren't they? And this one is interesting, there is clearly a "here to there" feeling with those wonderful green trees in the background, but it looks like the bridge is over nothing - no chasm, no stream. Just a transition from here to there, saying there is nothing scary to cross but I'll help you get over there any way. I am glad to hear that your iPhone is getting you out and pushing your boundaries a bit! It's a great tool for that, I've found too. Thanks for sharing in the Photo-Heart Connection.

ooh, I appreciate your symbolic take on my bridge, Kat. Your interpretation suggests the bridge is a great symbol for transitioning from my comfort zone into a more adventurous life experience, venturing out w/my iphone into otherworldly places and pushing those boundaries!

Congrats on stepping beyond your comfort zone. It is paying dividends-perhaps in more than just your images.
This bridge does look magical. There are no trolls under this bridge! : )

I think bridges are excellent subjects for photography too because they invite layers and lines and multiple subjects in a picture. This one seems so peaceful and inviting! I'm so glad you shared.

You're so right about the layers and lines Naomi. I am trying to train my eye to see more! Thanks for visiting.

The I phone bridged the gap for me when I don't have my camera and now it is just about all I use anymore... love the cripness of textures in your pic.
